I’m going to write about the second attempt I made at this floor because due to some dodgy materials the first go came out really wonky and looked rubbish. So I tried again. Lollipop (aka popsicle) sticks are my main materials for this, so I started by using my miter shears to cut off all the round ends. I cut them inside of a box to try and stop the pieces flying off everywhere which worked fairly well although there was still some shrapnel. For my Howl’s Moving Castle diorama, I previously built the box that will become the room (see my post history), and as the interior of the castle is on a level up from the door, I needed to make the stairs. I started out making a plan on my iPad of the pieces that I would need. I’d made stairs before so this was pretty straightforward. This is the second time I’m building the base for my Howl’s Moving Castle diorama. The first version was fine but as I added furniture I realised I’d missed a part from the reference photo and I didn’t have enough room for everything. So I decided to start again. I started by mapping out all of the furniture I wanted to include using Affinity Designer on my iPad, and worked out the dimensions for the box from there.
